The Communications Network has an excellent new blog posting examining a new report from The Center for Effective Philanthropy called “Essentials of Foundation Strategy.” The CommNet blog pulls out some of the key findings from the report on communications. According to CommNet, “While it might not make the headlines, it is refreshing to see that among the findings in a new report about what makes some foundations more strategic than others, communications plays an important role.”
My own personal favorite point from the CEP report: “Foundation leaders’ conceptions of strategy overvalue the presence of a strategic plan and undervalue the logical connections necessary to have a strategy.” Anyone who has ever worked in a foundation knows this to be true!
